Job Summary

Fraser Health requires a part-time (0.5 FTE) palliative care physicians to provide clinical service along with our multidisciplinary team located in Burnaby, B.C. This is an exciting opportunity, where you will work alongside other palliative care physicians to provide Most Responsible Provider (MRP) coverage in our Palliative Complex Care Unit (PCCU) +/- St. Michael’s Hospice, and consultation services to acute care and community-based patients.

Throughout the Fraser Health Authority we provide integrated, regional, comprehensive palliative care services in a number of settings including 30 Palliative Complex Care Unit (PCCU) beds; consult services in 12 acute care sites as well as in the community and other settings; and support to 126 hospice beds. Additionally, we provide under-graduate and post-graduate teaching in affiliation with the Division of Palliative Care at the University of British Columbia.

Burnaby Hospital is a 286-bed hospital offering a full range of primary and secondary acute care services, as well as a number of specialized services such as 24/7 emergency care, general and internal medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, obstetrics, neonatal intensive care and a palliative care unit.

​​Burnaby Hospital is currently in a two-phase redevelopment that will transform the hospital to a modernized medical and surgical health care campus. This will lead to more opportunities for expansion and enhancement of palliative care services.

Burnaby is the third-largest city in the province with over 249,000 residents. Burnaby is known for its beautiful surrounding natural environments and diverse culture—making it a sought-after place to live, work and play.

The successful candidate will have certification from either the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Preference will be provided to individuals who have completed additional training in Palliative Medicine, from either stream outlined below:

  • One year enhanced skills residency and acquired the Certificate of Added Competence (CAC) through the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
  • Two year Royal College subspecialty in Palliative Medicine.

Eligibility for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia is required.

Remuneration is by service contract at a rate set provincially by the Ministry of Health.
