BH Redevelopment (BHRP) invites qualified physicians to submit an expression of interest for the role of Physician Lead,OR/PACU redevelopment. This role will provide strategic and operational medical leadership for the recently approved OR/PACU renewal Business Case.The individual will have a close collaborative
relationship with the Chief Clinical Planner, BHRP and will report to the Medical Lead BHRP through to the BH site senior leadership team.

Role Description

The physician will maintain a close working relationship with the BH site Executive, the BH Director of surgical operations and the BH OR/PACU team. Working with the Departments of Surgery, Anesthesia and other clinical departments, the Lead will also cochair BHRP OR Renewal Operations Committee.

During the redevelopment timeline, the Lead will be a critical asset, assisting site operations and the BHRP team to develop mitigation strategies that minimize the redevelopment impact on OR/PACU case volumes and workflow.

As a representative for BH surgeons, anesthetists, surgical assistants, midwives and other clinical staff impacted by the redevelopment process; the incumbent will foster relationships with these groups, other redevelopment team members and contractors.It is expected that the Lead will maintain a highly visible presence,
encouraging direct engagement by affected parties on any aspects
of OR/PACU renewal that are of interest.


This is a part-time (0.2 FTE) role estimated to require an average of 1 day per week for a minimum 2-year term, with the option, upon review, to extend for the length of the project.


Major responsibilities will include:

  1. Clinical planning and management: Familiarity with the current BH OR/PACU business case.
  2. Understand current and anticipated case volumes and practices as a baseline for the strategic, plan.
  3. Act as a dyad partner with the site Director, clinical operations surgical services.
  4. Actively engage with the Anesthesia and Surgery department heads to facilitate change management processes and their potential impacts on those departments.
  5. Input into the implementation of the future state of the OR/PACU service delivery plan and performance specifications.
  6. Integrate future state estimates (including the impact of BC cancer agency on site) with the space plan, clinical service delivery and patient/staff flow plans.
  7. Input into clinical support and clinical administrative planning.
  8. Ensure the Clinical Service Delivery Plan specifications promote the role of BH as a significant provincial clinical and academic resource.
  9. Collaborate with the BHRP team in supporting the evaluation of the design-build process and contract execution.
  10. Ensure all aspects of the finished product are operationally ready and provide the highest possible level of technologic and medical device support.
  11. Through direct connection; participate in MSA working groups, any needed medical staff department meetings, leadership activities and collaborations that foster the goals of the BHRP OR/PACU renewal.

Qualifications:

  • Surgeon or Anesthetist licensed to practice in British Columbia
  • Member of the BH Medical Staff
  • A minimum of 5 years medical leadership experience or equivalent
  • Interest in development of leadership expertise
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Creative, solution-focused thinker.
  • Exceptional credibility and respect amongst colleagues
