Job Summary

We are currently looking to fill a Relief Full-Time opportunity for a Unit Clerk at Eagle Ridge Hospital located in Port Moody, B.C. This position is available until June 2026 or Return of Incumbent

Eagle Ridge Hospital is a 168-bed hospital in Port Moody, British Columbia, serving the communities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra. The hospital offers medical, surgical, and cardiac programs, as well as 24/7 emergency services with over 53,000 visits annually.

Detailed Overview

Performs various patient/resident care related duties, including transcribing physicians' orders, scheduling and booking patient/resident appointments for procedures; maintains relevant records such as patient/resident charts; performs related reception, clerical support and typing duties within a computerized environment for assigned nursing unit or residential care areas.
Responsibilities


  1. Transcribes physicians' orders by copying information, completing required forms and/or entering information into the computer and distributing as required.
  2. Schedules patient/resident activities such as diagnostic procedures, appointments or transportation by contacting appropriate departments, anaesthetists, physicians' offices or outside agencies and maintaining related records.
  3. Maintains patient/resident records according to established procedures by setting up charts, adding or removing forms and forwarding discharged patient records to the Health Records Department.
  4. Calls in relief staff according to pre-determined guidelines.
  5. Performs reception duties such as greeting and directing visitors, answering the telephone, taking messages, answering routine enquiries or referring as appropriate; opens and distributes mail as required.
  6. Assists the Care team in a variety of duties such as explaining routine procedures to patients/residents and verifying patients/residents' name.
  7. Porters patients to and from other departments as required; delivers and obtains specimens as required.
  8. Performs clerical duties such as typing, taking minutes and photocopying; maintains filing system and stock supplies for the assigned areas including storage and supply areas as required.
  9. Distributes mail, packages, stores supplies and flowers to patients/residents/staff.
  10. Maintains reports and records such as scheduling and timekeeping reports and department statistics; generates and prints off reports according to established procedures.
  11. Completes, summarizes and submits information according to established procedures.
  12. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from a Unit Clerk training program. Grade 12 plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to type at 40 w.p.m.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
