Description

To provide front line support to our guests and our resource centre team, ensuring smooth service delivery of various programs.

Hours:

  • This position is based on 24 hours a week.
  • Schedule will be set according to employment standards and in consultation with Community Ministries Director. Shifts are expected to be within the days of Tuesday - Friday between the hours of 9am - 4pm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client Services:

  • Conduct initial client intake and assessment of client needs.
  • Perform all aspects of the case management process.
  • Provide clients with emergency food hampers/clothing vouchers as necessary.
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained in accordance with The Salvation Army policy and applicable legislation.
  • Provide information and referral services as needed for clients.
  • Engage and build rapport with the target population.
  • Assist clients in making connections within the community which will support them in accessing community resources.
  • Work closely with other local ministry unit personnel to form an interdisciplinary team to work with families from a holistic perspective.
  • Light hospitality duties: greeting clients, heating ready-to-eat sandwiches, making and serving coffee, tea, etc.
  • Provides support to volunteers within the resource centre.

Shower and Laundary Program:

  • Guide clients through the client use agreement policies required in order to utilize the shower and laundry program
  • Provide direct supervision, ensuring that those utilizing the shower and laundry programs are abiding by client use agreement.
  • Ensure that between each client use of the shower that the program area is checked and given a quick clean/disinfection as required.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies for the shower program and laundry program; informing administrative assistant when supplies need to be reordered.
  • Responsible to wash/dry towels and facecloths from shower program on a daily basis

Pathway of Hope:

  • Refer clients to POH Caseworker
  • Serve as a member of the support team

Seasonal Projects:

  • Assist in the running of the seasonal Christmas Kettle Campaign
  • Assist with recruiting and scheduling of volunteers
  • Schedule pick ups
  • liaise with kettle locations

Performs other duties as required by immediate supervisor.

Critical Relationship Management:

  • Governance Boards and Councils: None
  • Internal: volunteers, employees
  • External: clients, donors, general public, social services organizations, service clubs

Managerial and Technical Responsibiity:

  • Reports to: Community Ministries Director (CMD).
  • No direct reports.
  • Workflow coordinator. Provides in-scope supervision to volunteers as designated by CMD.

Financial and Material Management:

  • Minor material responsibility (proper use of food, proper file handling, etc.)
  • Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.
  • May be authorized to handle cash, during major campaigns the amount could exceed $1000
  • May be involved in cash counting.
  • Little input to annual budget or revenue projections

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Some Post-Secondary Education an asset (social work, psychology, etc.)
  • An alternative combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Safe Food Handling an asset
  • First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention an asset

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • One to two years of relevant experience
  • Comfortable using and maintaining a digital database
  • Some experience working with vulnerable populations an asset

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined
  • Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 20lbs.
  • Able to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member.
  • Participate in mandatory orientation training.
  • Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures and associated legislation.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a positive manner.
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
  • Proficient computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft Office.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
