The Kitchen Helper assists the Food Services Coordinator in preparing meals

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in preparing meals, including dietary meals, as directed by the food services coordinator
  • Follows work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Follows policy on the use of donated foods
  • May place order for food supplies, in coordination with the food services coordinator
  • Organizes the work of food services in the absence of the food services coordinator
  • Cleans the kitchen and kitchen equipment
  • Keeps simple records and completes incident report forms as necessary
  • Assists in the recording of inventory (food and supply), as directed by the food services coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Recommended completion of a cooking course (six months) or equivalent experience
  • High school diploma
  • FoodSafe certification is an asset

Experience:

  • Up to three months of prior related experience, including (up to three months of) institutional kitchen experience or equivalent

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • The performance of the job requires frequently preparing foods, reading recipes, adhering to safety procedures and regulations and occasionally ordering supplies
  • Experience working with and (at times) giving direction to volunteers
  • Required to lift/move up to 30 pounds
  • Understanding of safe handling and use of kitchen equipment
  • Understanding of possible hazards within kitchen
  • Awareness of appropriate need to follow universal precautions in the kitchen
  • Cash handling experience (may be authorized to spend, disburse or collect small amounts of cash)

HOURS: 10 hours weekly, Monday's and Wednesday's 09:00-14:00

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
