The Youth Support Worker will assist the pastors in the effective running of children and youth programs at The Salvation Army Prince George

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the operations of The Salvation Army Prince George youth programs and various outreach programs.
  • Create and maintain relationships with program participants to provide spiritual guidance and/or emotional support.
  • Handle inquiries from parents, youth and teachers in-person, by phone, or electronically. Provide appropriate solutions in a timely manner, and follow-up to ensure successful resolution, in consultation with corps officer,
  • Create, manage, and input data in Google apps (Drive, gmail, calendar, forms, etc.) Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), SAMIS, mailchimp and Adobe PDF as required.
  • Stock and revise marketing materials and update bulletin boards as required,
  • Manage and maintain all youth inventory whether donated or purchased. Assist with purchasing needed supplies as directed.
  • Organize and maintain program registrations.
  • Maintain an organized and tidy entrance and office.
  • Register our programs, as directed, for youth events in our area, ensuring accurate information for all participants included.
  • Receive and process registration fees, fundraising efforts, and other money while maintaining accurate records and following our money handling procedures.
  • Attendance at church staff meetings as needed.
  • Maintain incident reporting protocol in the case of incident, injury, disclosure, etc,
  • Follow communication procedures, guidelines and policies.
  • Commit to confidentiality
  • Other work as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 20lbs.
  • Able to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member.
  • Participate in mandatory orientation training.
  • Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures and associated legislation.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a positive manner.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment when making decisions and to problem solve complex cases.

  • Proficient computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Driver's License with a good driving record, a copy of a driver's abstract is required.
  • Must provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Completion of our online Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training

HOURS: 24 per week
