Description

The Cook prepares and serves nutritious meals as outlined on menus in accordance with applicable food services and safety regulations.

  • Terms: Regular, Part-time (24 hours/week)
  • Days and Time: Monday (6:00 am-2:30 pm), Friday & Saturday (10:30 am - 7:00 pm)
  • Number of Vacancies: 1

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with Food Services Coordinator and follows the meal plan and recipes laid out for food preparation
  • Prepares meals; may prepare for special dietary needs of the residents
  • Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Makes good use of and decides on best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste
  • Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence
  • May supervises students, volunteers and/or guests
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • The successful job applicant will have completed High School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months or relevant certifications.
  • Food Safe Certification up to date
  • Possess valid First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certificate or obtain prior to the end of probationary period.

Experience:

  • One to three years of prior related experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability to lift more than 20 lbs.

Other conditions / requirements:

  • Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Program
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
