This position is accountable for the provision of optimum care services related to resident care needs, delivery of skilled procedures, medication administration and documentation in accordance with quality management, legislative requirements, an the organization standards.

This is a Casual (on-call) position.

We are looking for someone who is available any day Wed-Sun 1500-2300.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accountability for the nursing and personal care of residents within the scope of training and licensure;
  • Assume responsibility for notifying family / responsible party of any significant change in a resident's condition;
  • Maintains resident records and required documentation in accordance with policies and procedures and legislative requirements;
  • Administers medications as prescribed in accordance with pharmacy policies & procedures and observes changes in condition and reports them to the Director of Wellness;
  • Seeks direction from the Director of Wellness when resident need exceeds experience or scope of practice.
  • Exercises sound nursing judgment by reporting any change in resident's status in a timely manner to the Director of Wellness as necessary, and takes appropriate action.
  • Monitors the safekeeping of drugs and narcotics, and ensures narcotic count is correct;
  • Reports incidents / near misses, illness or problems with residents to the Director of Wellness / General Manager;
  • Reports all transfers to hospital or deaths immediately to the Director of Wellness / General Manager;
  • Complete and maintain routine or adhoc clinical assessment of residents as assigned by Director of Wellness.
  • Assist in care plan development
  • Greet all visitors and family members in a positive and supportive manner requesting if they need assistance of any kind;
  • Promotes and maintains positive communication and relationships among team members;
  • Demonstrates personal attributes and communication skills that foster customer satisfaction at all times and monitors team member performance in relation to customer service.
  • Fosters positive interactions with residents, families and visitors;
  • Facilitates problem solving of resident / family concerns or complaints that arise and ensures complaints are communicated to the Director of Wellness / General Manager;
  • Assists with the orientation of new residents to help facilitate a smooth transition to the home.
  • Adheres to organizations policies, procedures, practices;
  • Facilitates calm reaction and resolution to problems that arise or emergency situations;
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities as assigned by Director of Wellness;
  • Assume responsibility for replacing team members as required
  • Continually assesses his/her own nursing practice and learning needs.
  • Participates in and attends in-service programs provided by the community as well as conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Works with the resident, family members, and interprofessional team to systematically collect data for the health history on admission, readmission, and change in status, and provides ongoing assessment and appropriate documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing.
  • Current and good standing as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • CPR Level C or CPR Health Care Provider.
  • 1 year minimum nursing experience.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check.
  • Assisted Living Experience is an asset but not required.
