Job Description

At UBC, we believe that attracting and sustaining a diverse workforce is key to the successful pursuit of excellence in research, innovation, and learning for all faculty, staff and students. Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.

Job Summary

The UBC Physical Therapy and Research Clinic is an exciting new initiative in the Department of Physical Therapy. This student-led, fee-for-service Clinic will be owned and operated by the Department of Physical Therapy within the Faculty of Medicine to provide premier physical therapy care grounded in the best available evidence to service populations within the local community.

Part-time Physical Therapist role for the UBC Physical Therapy and Research Clinic will be responsible for assessing and treating patients and maintaining the full and robust caseload the clinic requires to support student clinical placements. The candidate must demonstrate a strong desire and focus to provide an optimal clinical experience for patients.

Organizational Status

The Department of Physical Therapy provides the only provincial program for the education of entry-to-practice physical therapists. Through rigorous scholarly activity, high standards of instruction and creative opportunities for learning, the Master of Physical Therapy Program provides a strong foundation that supports the current and future practice of the profession. The Department is also a research-intensive unit with award winning faculty conducting state-of-the art healthcare research.

This position will report to the Associate Head of Clinical Education and the Administration Manager of the Department of Physical Therapy.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Inappropriate judgment could result in adverse effects to the patients and their care, treatment and recovery. Inappropriate patient treatment could result in patients and their families becoming frustrated, angry or seeking compensation. Both could result in damage to the reputation of the PTRC and the Department of Physical Therapy and impact the long-term success of the clinic.

Inattention to paperwork detail (errors on forms, charts) could jeopardize the results of clinical trials and have impacts on billing for clinic affecting its long-term viability.
