JOB PURPOSE
Provision of nursing care to meet the individual patient's needs by utilizing the Nursing process.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently registered with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick.
- Experience and interest in Transitional/Geriatric Care.
- Demonstrates effective clinical competency and critical thinking.
- CPR certification.
- Able to perform charge nurse responsibilities.
- High regard for confidentiality and advocacy for patients.
- Demonstrates initiative, good judgment and decision-making abilities that contribute to positive health outcomes.
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
- Ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Good work record.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
- Possesses the specialized nursing knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care and to supervise and instruct subordinate staff in the care of geriatric patients.
- Responsible for ensuring appropriate patient assignments based on patient conditions and/or staffing changes.
- Leads the development of and continuously evaluates effectiveness of individual nursing care plans.
- Acts as resource for wound care, infection prevention and control, falls prevention, and Dementia care.
- Strong clinical assessment skills for geriatric patients.
- Acts as a patient advocate, promoting an environment conducive to open communication and professionalism.
- Maintains the standards of clinical care on the unit as per the inpatient nursing standards.
- Clinical practitioner who leads nursing practice.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members including liaison with physicians.
- Management of end-of-life care.
- Geriatric education as required.
