The Opportunity


The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is seeking a passionate and dedicated Recreation Leader to join our team in Eastern Charlotte County. The Recreation Leader will work closely with staff and volunteers to plan and deliver programs that promote the physical, mental, and social health of community members, including children, youth, and older adults.

In this role, you will be responsible for engaging participants in a variety of recreational activities while ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment. This position requires flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, and the ability to work independently when needed.


Responsibilities

  • Effectively plan and organize recreation programs and activities with Manager.
  • Lead scheduled recreation programs and activities for all ages including youth, children, and older adults.
  • Employ inclusive and adaptive programming principles to cater to all participants and resource additional support as deemed necessary.
  • Set-up and supervise drop-in and scheduled programs.
  • Scheduling and administrative duties including monitoring sign-in/sign out and number of participants present.
  • Maintain a safe and organized area both during and outside of core programming hours.
  • Maintain program and facility equipment, during activity set up and tear down in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Communicate and enforce guidelines to ensure a safe and controlled environment while paying keen attention to accident/incident prevention.
  • Understanding of Child Protection Policies and Practices.
  • Act as a coach, teammate and mentor to participants.
  • Assume additional duties including training and meetings as required.
  • Encourage and engage participants to develop volunteer opportunities within the programs.
  • Act as a positive role model, effectively guiding youth behaviour and actions.


Skills and Qualifications

  • High School or Post-Secondary Education
  • Experience working with children, youth, or older adults is an asset
  • Possess a strong work ethic and excellent organization skills
  • An excellent team player able to share cooperative leadership with other staff and volunteers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.

Requirements

  • Must be 19 years or older to work independently when required.
