Accountability Objective Under the direction of the resident services manager, is responsible for the care of assigned residents/tenants and the provision of job guidance to the attendants. Adheres to all regulations and standards in accordance with the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority. Background/Qualifications A registered practical nurse possessing a current Ontario Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario. Possession of a medication administration certificate is required. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions in the English language. Key Responsibilities Participates actively in and contributes to ChelseyPark's Quality Improvement Program. Participates in assessing the needs of individual residents/tenants and organizes for the provision of nursing care to promote maximum resident independence in conjunction with the resident services manager.
Carries out planned assignments and job routines for effective resident and tenant care, taking into account the physical, spiritual, social and emotional needs to the individual. Supervises the nursing care given by attendants and unregulated care providers or designated staff, in accordance the resident care plans.
Provides direct resident/tenant care, in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies and procedures. Assists with the implementation and enforcement of all ChelseyPark's policies.
Maintains effective communication and good interpersonal relations with medical and allied staff, residents, tenants, families and other departments. Provides emergency medical assistance and summons appropriate intervention and notifies family of the same.
Maintains accurate records of nursing observations and procedures performed. Assists with safe keeping of all drugs and nursing solutions in the residence. Participates in the development of and implementation of a plan of care for residents that supports independence as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
Supports and actively participates in unit orientation and completes applicable educational training. Assists the resident services manager in evaluating the performance of the attendants and unregulated care providers; assists with appropriate documentation. Keeps the resident services manager informed of any staff members who performance is less than satisfactory.
Administers medication in accordance with the College of Nurses standards as an added nursing skill and in compliance with the policies of ChelseyPark. Consults with tenants and residents and their families and/or physicians regarding need for varied service interventions and or referrals.
Records all charges for services on individual resident/tenant sheets. Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in educational sessions and fire drills. Performs other related duties as delegated by the Resident Services Manager.
