The Mint is recruiting Protective Services Officers (PSOs) who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Protective Services, the Protective Services Officer (PSOs) is the font line of security defense. You ensure the security and safety of the Mint's staff, assets & facilities.

Full-Time (40 hrs)

The Royal Canadian Mint is looking to staff pre-qualified candidates to fill future Protective Services Officer positions.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and respond to alarms and inform the Control Room and Supervisor in cases of emergencies or the presence of unauthorized persons
  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities
  • Conduct preventive patrols, providing threat and risk analysis, controlling and monitoring access of pedestrian and vehicular traffic flows on the Mint's premises
  • Enforce security policies and regulations, and respond to emergencies, including HAZMAT response, fire and medical emergencies in accordance with established and recognized emergency plans and procedures.

Mandatory Recruit Training Program (Paid)

The mandatory PSO training program includes:

  • Use of Force (5 Days)
  • Firearms (Pistol) (5 Days)
  • HAZMAT Technician Safety Course (5 Days)
  • SOPs, Systems & Post Training

You must be available to work shifts including: days, evenings, overnights, weekends & holidays.

Qualifications:

  • A basic level of bilingual proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required at the time of hire. If a bilingual candidate is not identified, other candidate language profiles may be considered in accordance with the Mint's Staffing Policy.

Education

  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in a related field, relevant experience will also be considered

Experience:

  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificate required
  • Valid provincial driver's licence required
  • Valid firearms Possession & Acquisition Licence (PAL) for restricted and non-restricted firearms is an asset (click here for course & license information)
  • Experience identifying suspicious behaviour considered an asset
  • Experience working in a high-security environment considered an asset
  • Experience working with HAZMAT or industrial firefighting considered a strong asset

    Additional Qualifications

    Knowledge:

    • Knowledge in corporate security processes and emergency procedures
    • Knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada (sections pertaining to use of force & powers of arrest)
    • Knowledge in accident prevention and safety, crisis intervention & de-escalation techniques
    • Knowledge of access control, intrusion detection, alarm monitoring systems, CCTV and other security systems
    • Knowledge of visitor management systems, x-ray operation and/or hand scanning

    Selected candidates will be required to complete:

    • A background check facilitated by the Mint, in order to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
    • A psychological assessment facilitated by the Mint.
    • Please note: Priority will be given to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents.
