Overview


The Library Technician is responsible for managing and maintaining electronic resources, ensuring seamless access for students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, experience in library resource management, and a commitment to supporting academic research and learning.

Responsibilities


Electronic Resource Management

  • Receive and activate electronic resources.
  • Maintain and update usage statistics.
  • Monitor access and troubleshoot issues in collaboration with vendors and IT.
  • Update licenses and amendments.
  • Process resources received through consortia and vendors.

Cataloguing & Metadata

  • Create and maintain metadata for institutional repositories (Knowledge Commons and Lakehead Borealis).
  • Catalog library materials and maintain current collections.
  • Process library items. Acquisitions
  • Process acquisitions, including creating and managing order records.
  • Receive and verify library items.
  • Communicate with vendors and process invoices.

  • Other duties as required

Qualifications


  • Library Technician Diploma - Proficiency in COUNTER and SUSHI standards.
  • Experience with cataloging tools (RDA, MARC, LC subject headings, Dewey Decimal Classification).
  • Familiarity with automated library systems and metadata management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Windows operating systems.
  • 1+ years experience
