The JDMI Research Division of specializes in both MRI and PET. As a valued member of Team JDMI, you will play a key role in supporting both the MRI and PET function.

Duties

  • Performs nuclear medicine procedure and quality assurance for PET as outlined in the protocol/procedure manuals to aid in patient diagnosis, intervention and or treatment
  • Ensures MRI Safety Standards of Practice are followed at all times
  • Operates, troubleshoots and ensures safe functioning of medical imaging and ancillary equipment are performing in an effective and efficient manner
  • Prepare written and electronic reports required to properly document all procedures and test results
  • Attend PET-MR & Research meetings as required
  • Assume the role and responsibility as the Radiation Safety Designate such as respond to radiation incident, and assist with minor or major spills in the area.
  • Attend quarterly RNRSC meeting
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts and grand applications and data processing
  • Responsible for teaching, training, educational research, safety and quality improvement programs/activities
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and utilizing the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to review, manipulate and archive digital medical images of data in final image formation
  • Perform other related patient care responsibilities to facilitate the provision of optimal patient care
  • Understand and follow Hospital and departmental Research policies and procedures to improve technical quality

Qualifications

  • Certification in Nuclear Medicine from a recognized academic institution
  • Current registration with the CMRITO, including annual continuing education requirements
  • Completion of a BCLS program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification, with ongoing maintenance
  • Completion of the clinical component of an accredited medical imaging academic program or equivalent education as assessed by CAMRT and CMRITO
  • Minimum of three years of recent clinical experience in Nuclear Medicine
  • Competence in operating PET diagnostic equipment, an asset
  • Ability to order radiopharmaceuticals required for PET-MR studies
  • Administration of radiopharmaceuticals intravenously under the direction of a nuclear medicine physician or authorized user
  • Calculation, measurement, and recording of radiation dosage for radiopharmaceuticals received, used, and disposed of under the direction of a nuclear medicine physician
  • Disposal and storage of radioactive materials following CNSC requirements
  • Reconstruction of image data for quantitative analyses, applying corrections for attenuation, random scatters, motion, etc., as directed by a nuclear medicine physician or physicist
  • Transfer and backup of imaging data
  • Performance of venipuncture or catheterization for administering radiopharmaceuticals, fluids, or the removal of blood for analysis
  • Monitoring radiation work areas (wipe testing, weekly surveys) and other necessary areas
  • Maintenance of quarterly equipment checks (dose calibrator linearity and constancy)
  • Demonstration of thoroughness and reliability in study documentation
  • Independent decision-making abilities
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently under stressful conditions
  • Excellent problem-solving and recognition skills
  • Practical time management skills, with the ability to organize work and set priorities
  • Proficiency in computer skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attendance and availability for evenings and occasional weekends
  • Sensitivity towards patients in challenging situations
  • Strong inter-professional and collaborative approach to practice
  • Good judgment to ensure work is performed in the best interest and safety of patients and the team.
  • Ability to work accurately, safely, and efficiently in a fast-paced, high-patient volume setting, accommodating unexpected situations
