Join our St. Joseph's Health Centre team as we work to put patients and families at the centre of everything we do, in the role of Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA/PTA) on our Health Disciplines Resource Team!

Seeking an OTA/PTA with excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills who is comfortable working in a variety of acute inpatient units. This position will be primarily responsible for carrying out treatment to inpatients, as assigned by either the Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapist throughout the Medicine and Surgical programs. Reporting to the Manager, Collaborative Practice and Education, this permanent part-time role will provide weekday clinical coverage in diverse inpatient care areas across the health centre.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary role of the OTA/PTA is to implement therapeutic programs for patients as assigned and/or supervised by the Occupational Therapist and/or the Physical Therapist. This includes the management of patient-related equipment and therapeutic tools.


Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care

Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community

Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families

Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care

Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization

Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an accredited combined OTA/PTA program is required.

Current BLS (or willingness to complete within probationary period);

1 year experience working in acute care required;

Experience with critical care units preferred;

Ability to carry out directions of therapists and modify interventions quickly in accordance to changes in patient status as required;

Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and critical thinking skills;

Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment;

Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care;

Demonstrated advocacy, commitment to and involvement with profession preferred (e.g. involvement with professional network, representation on relevant committees).
