Job Description

Hours: 24 hours per week
Salary: $29.22 - $30.06 (start rate in accordance with collective agreement requirments)
Shifts: Day 0700h-1500h, Evening 1500h-2300h, Night 2300h-0700h
Status: Permanent Part-Time
Closing Date: November 21, 2024

Position Summary


We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Support Worker (PSW) to join our healthcare team in Toronto, Canada. As a PSW, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care and support to our patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being.

Duties

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting
  • Perform tasks delegated by Registered Nurses (RNs) or Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) in compliance with established protocols and after appropriate training
  • Communicate and demonstrate basic information in accordance with patients' pre-established Plans of Care
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff by reporting and documenting unsafe conditions, equipment issues, and patient behavioral, physical, or cognitive changes
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and progress notes, adhering to hospital policies and procedures
  • Collaborate effectively with the inter-professional care team to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Adapt to changing patient needs and healthcare situations with flexibility and professionalism

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker program from an accredited community college
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate
  • Strong physical stamina to handle daily mild to moderate physical exertion, including constant standing, walking, climbing, and reaching
  • Excellent attendance record and reliability
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact empathetically with patients and collaborate effectively with healthcare team members
  • Demonstrated patience, compassion, and a supportive attitude towards patients
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks efficiently
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and commitment to maintaining a safe healthcare environment
  • Detail-oriented approach to patient care and documentation
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays
  • Previous acute care or rehabilitation experience is considered an asset
  • Behavioral management training (such as PIECES, U-First, or CPI) is an asset
