About Us:
BGC Weston-Mount Dennis Club serves children and youth in the Weston-Mount Dennis and surrounding communities. We provide social, physical, educational, creative, seasonal, and community support programs.
Program Description: This program is designed for children 6-12 years of age. Program components include education, recreation, social activities, sports, health and nutrition, mentoring, and the arts.


Locations:

  • Portage Trail Community School (100 Sidney Belsey Crescent)

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and lead a group of children in a group setting.
  • Act as a role model and provide mentorship to Junior Camp Mentors, and volunteers.
  • Lead and support the development of creative, engaging, and inclusive activities for participants.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of daily camp activities.
  • Ensure that all equipment and supplies are in safe working condition.
  • Manage and resolve conflicts and behavior concerns promptly using corrective techniques as discussed in training.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for parents/caregivers, providing updates on participant progress, addressing concerns, and fostering positive relationships.
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of participants at all times by strictly following guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist in responding to critical incidents as outlined in the Club's policies and procedures.
  • Participate in staff training and orientation sessions.
  • Report to and take direction from the Program Manager and Supervisors.
  • Complete administrative tasks in a timely manner (i.e., attendances, incident reports, etc.).
  • Maintain professional relationships with peers, members, volunteers, parents, and other Club members.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled shift.

Qualifications:

  • Educational background applicable to the position.
  • Must meet all "Canada Summer Jobs" requirements, including:
    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
    • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*.
    • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
      *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a summer camp or similar childcare setting.
  • Experience interacting with parents and caregivers in a professional manner.
  • Strong skills in one or more of the following areas: sports, arts, swimming, recreation, education, health, and nutrition.
  • Strong leadership, supervision, and program planning skills.
  • Ability to provide guidance and mentorship to Junior Camp Mentors, and volunteers.
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Current First Aid and CPR training (mandatory).
  • Police Reference Check completed within the last 6 months (mandatory prior to start date).
  • HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development training (asset).

Contract Period: June 23, 2025 - August 15, 2025
Must attend mandatory training from June 23 to June 27

Hours: 35-37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Availability: 5 days a week (mandatory)
