The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), Regina Area invites applications for 1.0 FTE of contracted palliative care physician services in Regina, Saskatchewan. Candidates able to fulfill the requirements of 1.0 FTE are desired, however applications to a minimum of 0.2 FTE will be considered. The successful applicant will provide consultative services for clients and families in Regina facilities as well as within the community and have a strong interest in developing skill in Palliative Care Medicine. In addition, the physician will provide expert advice to physicians, physicians’ office staff, team members (including volunteers), patients and family members, healthcare professionals not specializing in palliative care (such as home care agency or nursing facility staff), and the community.
The physician is accountable for working together with the Palliative Care Unit, other acute care wards, Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, long-term care, Palliative Home Care and the Palliative Care Services team to foster the highest standards of palliative practice in accordance with the philosophy, principles and goals of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, Regina Area Palliative Care Services.
The physician will have ample opportunity to expand their knowledge in Palliative Care Medicine and work collaboratively with our highly skilled team.
The SHA is dedicated to learning and is a partner in the growing educational needs of medical students and residents from the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan.
The candidate will hold certification or be eligible for certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Successful applicants will be eligible for a provisional or regular license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan to practice in Saskatchewan.
Experience in the delivery of palliative care is required. Special consideration will be given to those with additional certification in hospice and palliative medicine in Canada. Diplomate status with the American Board of Hospice & Palliative Medicine would also be advantageous.
This individual should be a team player, be able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and management, and function well in a high volume environment with a commitment to provision of high quality patient and family centered care.
