Job Description: Nurse Practitioners work alongside the Pediatric Emergency Specialist within a regulated scope of practice as well as SHA policies and procedures. They work within a framework of evidence-based practices, health promotion, and disease and injury prevention. As health care professionals, they participate in self and peer review to evaluate the outcome of their services at the patient, community, and population level. In this setting, pediatric experience is important to supplement advanced clinical skills, knowledge, and abilities. Nurse Practitioners are responsible for their professional development and maintaining competence and registration with the CRNS.

Human Resources Exemption: No

Experience

  • Three full-time years recent experience in pediatric primary care/emergency care
  • Three FT years recent experience with children with acute/chronic conditions
  • Five (5) years nursing experience

Education

  • Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP)

Other Education and Training

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation HCP Certificate (CPR-HCP)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certificate (PALS)

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Commits to continuous quality improvement of NP role and department as a whole
  • Knowledge of social determinants/resource evaluation for assessment/mngment plan

  • Demonstrates an understanding of Emergency Department flow and function
